Depression & Bipolar Support Alliance of Lowell, MA
These are the guidelines by which the meeting is run
- Issues that are discussed or shared here should remain confidential.
- We realize some members need more time to speak than others, but we also ask that members try not to monopolize the group’s time. Everyone should have a chance to speak. It’s also okay to not speak, if you just want to listen.
- Only one person should speak at a time, after raising their hand and being recognized by the facilitator. The facilitator may speak without raising their hand. Avoid cross-talk and side conversations.
- It’s okay to ask other members questions, but ask their permission first.
- None of us are professionals, and we are not qualified to instruct other members on how they should deal with their situation. We can only suggest possible solutions based on our personal experiences. Likewise, we can name and talk about prescription medication, but these are only opinions.
- Please avoid known triggers such as foul language, details of traumatic experiences, the names commonly abused drugs, and specific kinds of alcohol. If something triggers you, feel free to speak up, or talk to the facilitator after the meeting.
- If a member gets excessively upset or angry, a board member will step out with them to discuss the problem and find a resolution before re-entering the meeting.
- There is no charge to attend the meeting. We keep a collection plate to cover costs like candy and insurance, but contributing is completely optional.
- Please silence your cell phones during the meeting.
- Our guidelines are a way of ensuring safety. This meeting will always be a safe place to come for support. Please treat each other with kindness and respect.
